This was the first event where Finnish state representatives recognized the Roma as victims of the Holocaust.
In the Spring of 2010 Drom Association, chaired by Veijo Baltzar, organized The Forgotten Genocide Project in Helsinki. It was a series of events dedicated to remembering and acknowledging the Roma Holocaust. President Tarja Halonen acted as the patron of the project.
The main event, the Roma and the Holocaust Seminar featured Finnish and international experts and politicians. The speakers included former Prime Minister Paavo Lipponen, Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Roma Council Pekka Haavisto, Docent Panu Pulma, Professor Juha Sihvola, Professor Paul Polansky, Taito Lehmusta (Government Advisory Board of Romani Affairs) and Tuula-Liina Varis (Finnish Union of Authors). Based on available information, this was the first event where Finnish state representatives recognized the Roma as victims of the Holocaust.
Veijo Baltzar stated in the seminar that the Finnish Roma too were to suffer from the atrocities.
